Xtracycle Edgerunner 10E Bosch Electric Cargo Bike [VIDEO & PICS]

For 2015 Xtracycle has joined forces withBosch to bring their Edgerunner to market with the Bosch Performance Line mid drive system.

The new 10E will feature the Bosch 350 watt mid drive system with a center mounted 36V 11ah lithium battery.

Xtracycle’s message is “Ride bikes. Carry Stuff” and the new 10E definitely embodies that!

In addition to being utilitarian, the folks at Xtracycle also know how to have fun.

At Interbike (largest bike show in the US) they had The Bean Machine, a coffee shop set up on a 10E and for the end of the day they had the beer bike with a keg of New Belgium beer on a traditional Edgerunner.

And to liven up the party they had a 10E set up with a huge music system on the front rack.

Enjoy the following collection of pictures of the new 10E from Interbike:

The new 10E is similar to the previous Edgerunner with all of it’s carrying options and the 20″ rear wheel for the lower cargo center of gravity for improved stability. The major differences with the 10E is the Bosch e-bike system and the sturdy front rack.  The 10E will come in the white/blue color or a solid black color.  The 10E will be priced at $4,997 and it will be available in April of 2015.

Ross Evans is the inventor and CEO of Xtracycle and you can tell he is proud of the new 10E!

The Bosch Performance Line system is located in the center part of the 10E for good weight distribution.  The Bosch 36V 11ah lithium battery weighs approximately 5.5 pounds and it can be charged in 3.5 hours.

At 350 watts powering through the drivetrain of the bike, the 10E will be able to ride up almost any hill.  The Bosch system is pedal assist only (pedelec) which means that you will also have to pedal in order to get assist.  No throttle here.  The Bosch system has 4 different levels of pedal assist: Eco, Tour, Sport, Turbo.  You can also ride with no assist if you want.

Xtracycle did have to make the front chainring a little larger than the typical chainring that comes on the Bosch motors due to the smaller 20″ rear wheel.

The 10E shown does not have they typical cargo bags or kid seats (shown on an Edgerunner beyond), etc.  You can select what cargo package suits your lifestyle.

Xtracycle knows how to kickstart the day with the Bean Machine!  This was the 10E coffee stand at the Bosch booth at Interbike.  It was popular!  Entrepreneurs take note: here is your mobile coffee shop…….

The coffee holder was created using their Hooptie kid carrier accessory along with a custom wood plate. Brilliant!

The coffee extras were built into the new front rack.

And the coffee koozie says it all “Bean Machine: Put a little zip in your day!”

Yes, that is 4 adults on the new Xtracycle 10E!  In fact that is the wild and crazy crew from The New Wheel.  They know how to have a good time while proving what the 10E can do.

They enjoyed their cruise on the 10E!

Bring the party!  This is one of the demo 10E’s with a huge music system strapped to the front rack.  It handled amazingly well despite the weight on the front.  Also shown on this demo 10E is the Sidecar that folds down (the side wheel is not shown) and provides a flat sidecar cargo platform.

Here is a video review of the 10E from Court Rye at Electric Bike Review:

At the end of the day the party was at the Xtracycle booth.  This is a custom Edgerunner beer bike!  Another note to entrepreneurs: here is your mobile beer garden!

Note the custom keg holding area on this Edgerunner.

The tap on the beer bike uses some bike components (of course) and it is activated by a brake lever. Awesome!

That’s it for now. Stay tuned for more news about the Xtracycle 10E.
